How to store WKS wood doors properly
Wood is a natural, living material that responds to its environment. When exposed to extreme temperatures or moisture, it can expand, contract, warp, or even crack. That’s why storing wood doors correctly is just as important as choosing the right door in the first place.
- Store Flat on a Level Surface: Doors should always be stored flat on a stable, level surface. Never lean them against a wall, this can lead to bowing or bending over time.
- Keep Doors Raised Off the Ground: Use support beams to raise doors at least 4 inches (102 mm) off the floor. This helps protect against floor moisture and allows air to circulate properly.
- Protect Against Dust and Moisture: Cover both the top and bottom surfaces to shield the doors from moisture, dust, and physical damage, but make sure there’s still airflow around them.

To protect your investment and ensure warranty coverage, it’s highly recommended to monitor the environment from the moment your doors arrive until they are installed. Keeping track of humidity and temperature during this phase is not only smart, it can also serve as proof of proper care.
Your building’s HVAC system must be fully functional before doors are delivered, stored, or installed. Wood is highly sensitive to humidity and temperature changes. Keep conditions between 25% to 55% relative humidity and 10°C to 32°C (50°F to 90°F). Also, doors should not be installed in environments where wet plaster or cement is present. Failure to maintain these levels can lead to warping or shrinkage and may void your door warranty.
Following these wood door handling tips can save you from costly repairs, replacements, and lost warranty coverage. Treat your doors with care, and they’ll provide security and performance for decades.
