Our wood veneer doors are crafted with quality materials and designed to offer both beauty and durability. To maintain their appearance and ensure long-lasting performance, proper field-finishing is essential.

1. Let the Doors Breathe

Before finishing, allow the doors to adjust to the building’s environment. Make sure the humidity inside the building is stable and the doors have reached a consistent moisture level. This helps prevent warping or surface issues later on. For more information about the correct temperatures, clic here.

2. Sand with Care

Use fine-grit sandpaper (100–150) to smooth all surfaces. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain and keep the door flat while doing so. Remove any raised grain, pencil marks, or imperfections before applying any finish.

3. Test the Finish First

Some wood species, like oak, may react with certain finishes, causing dark spots. Always test the product on a small, hidden area before committing to the full surface. If you notice a reaction, pause and consult your finish provider.

4. Choose Light, Natural Tones

Avoid dark stains or paints, especially on light-colored veneers. Dark finishes can highlight flaws and may lead to uneven exposure to light over time.

5. Pay Attention to Edges

The top and bottom rails of our Heritage flush wood doors come factory-sealed with a UV-cured finish. No additional sealing is needed; unless the door is trimmed on-site, in which case resealing is recommended.

6. Follow Finish Manufacturer Instructions

Apply each coat according to the product guidelines. Ensure even color, smooth surfaces, and consistent gloss between coats. Take your time; quality finishing is all about patience and precision.

7. When in Doubt, Ask

If anything seems off during the finishing process; like uneven absorption, discoloration, or surface texture, pause and seek advice from your supplier or finish expert before continuing. With proper care and the right finishing techniques, WKS wood veneer doors will showcase the warmth and elegance of natural wood for years to come.
